Resource Libraries
The Nebraska Department of Education has established two pilot resource libraries to support local efforts to implement the Principles of Effectiveness for the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act. A complete listing of available materials is available on their respective websites. Nebraska schools, Educational Service Units, and Safe and Drug-Free Consortia representatives can access the materials through the libraries at no charge.

The library contains several substance use prevention curricula that have been recognized as promising or exemplary by the National Drug Strategies Organization. Also in the library are a variety of violence prevention materials, including violence prevention in the classroom, guidelines for developing a crisis plan, and materials to support the creation of a comprehensive safe school program.
Nebraska schools, Educational Service Units, and Safe and Drug-Free Consortia representatives can access the materials through the libraries at no charge. For more information, you can contact the librarian at either site or Karen Stevens at the Nebraska Department of Education (402) 471-2448.
Safe Schools Resources
A comprehensive safe school program includes many strands, such as leadership, climate, security, plans and policies, building and grounds, neighborhood, community, prevention and intervention. To assist districts in planning and assessing school safety programs the following resource materials are available for loan from at the two regional libraries:
