Title I Part A/Subsection 1003(g)
School Improvement Grants (SIG) and Information

In conjunction with Title I funds for school improvement reserved under section 1003(a) of the ESEA, School Improvement Grants under section 1003(g) of the ESEA are used to improve student achievement in Title I schools identified for improvement, corrective action, or restructuring so as to enable those schools to make adequate yearly progress (AYP) and exit improvement status.

NDE is applying for a waiver from the U.S. Department of Education to allow any local educational agency (LEA) in the State that receives a School Improvement Grant to use those funds for an extended period of availability through September 30, 2014.   The application process requires public notice and an opportunity for members of the public to comment.  Comments on the proposed waiver to allow an LEA receiving a School Improvement Grant should be submitted via email to randy.mcintyre@nebraska.gov by 5:00 p.m. (Central) on June 1, 2011.  Information on the waiver request is posted on the ARRA website at:  http://www.education.ne.gov/ARRA/School_Improvement_Grants.html
